Undergraduate Research Assistant

January 2020 • Rolla, MO

What I liked

The wide variety of access to different machines and procedures in labs I never knew existed at S&T. While not directly applicable to my major, additive manufacturing is for sure an interesting and futuristic field worth learning about.

What I wish was different

Unfortunately there is little to no onboarding process for my research group, which made things difficult in the beginning. That being said, we're currently working on making it easier for everyone to understand what each other are working on and the details behind our projects.

Advice

Any student going into a research position should be aware that it takes time and moves very slowly most of the time. Be patient and proactive in spending your time wisely, and asks lots and lots of questions.

June - August 2019 • Rolla, MO

What I liked

hands on experience, furthered my research. Got to job shadow at several different federal departments.

What I wish was different

more structure. Program felt a little thrown together. Too much down time.

Advice

it was a fantastic experience but have a research project and lots of data before you go. My research was still in the beginning phase and there are allot of resources I could have used if I had more data.
